I've been eyeing a few conventions in the States that would be relatively close for me to attend, but...

Keep an eye out for Christmas lights when they come out (which is earlier and earlier each year). You can often find different coloured outdoor spotlights then. If you have fabric stores around (especially if you have a strip in town that has a few fabric stores), cheesecloth is usually cheaper than at craft stores. You can buy it by the meter.
