Re: How much do you like Christmas?
It may be the best way to view them. You get a depth of color and shape.
Oh, your so cool, Brewster!

I have done that since I was little. Such a nice way to see them!
Plus it smells GREAT with a real tree.

I always used to do that too, until one year when I got a pine needle in my cornea. Now, not so much.

Don't worry, Witchy. Made up eye injuries aren't very painful.

I am always paranoid around real Christmas trees for that very reason.
I miss the smell of real trees. We've been using fake ones for the last few years.

Re: How much do you like Christmas?
My absolute favorite is George C. Scott's. I love the way he plays Scrooge, emphasizing his intelligence. I love love love the novella, have read it way too many times to count, and Scott brings something to Scrooge no other actor does, IMO. And Edward Woodward is a brilliant, scathing ghost of Christmas Present, very similar to the caustic aspect of that spirit in the book.MacPhantom wrote:The best thing about Christmas is A Christmas Carol. It always gets me right into the Halloween spirit, what with all those ghosts!!
What's your favorite version? For the straight up Dickens, I like the Alastair Sim version (can't beat an Embra boy!), but my favorite overall version is Scrooged with Bill Murray.
But my favorite Ghost of Christmas Past is Joel Grey in Patrick Stewart's version. If you notice, they have terrible trouble casting GoCPast, because Dickens describes him in such a surreal way, combining elements of old and young. I think Joel Grey captures that combination of qualities better than anyone else in the role.
I have seen it on stage once or twice, not recently. But I love this story and think it was one of Dickens's most inspired works.
Adrian, is it the Alabama Shakespeare Festival you attend? I used to see them once a year when they would come up to Vanderbilt while I was a student there. Back then they were located in Anniston, and they were superb. Later they relocated to Montgomery, and the word was that their quality had declined somewhat. I haven't seen them since my student days, would love to go again sometime. Montgomery is a fur piece from where I live, though.

Scrooged is my favorite as well, except for that song at the end...I turn it off at that point.MacPhantom wrote:The best thing about Christmas is A Christmas Carol. It always gets me right into the Halloween spirit, what with all those ghosts!!

Yes! Love those candles.
George C. Scott's interpretation is good, too. I really like that one.

I'm totally teasing right now but, I can only imagine what the Alabama Shakespeare Festival might sound like.Murfreesboro wrote:My absolute favorite is George C. Scott's.
