White lights or colored?
I actually saw this discussion at the Christmas forums so I thought I would bring it up here at Halloween.com in the Christmas discussion area. (I'm SnowMau there)
Do you prefer white lights or colored lights in your Christmas display? Personally I like the colored ones. They're more vibrant than the plain white ones. Unless the white ones are incorporated with another color.
The blue ones I think are really pretty though. You put blue and white together, and it's like a winter wonderland!

This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,

Re: White lights or colored?
I prefer colored myself. I do recall, when I was a child at Disneyland, I was enchanted with the crystal twinkle lights in the trees (this was in the late '60s). Then, in the '80s, the crystal lights were everywhere. At first I loved them, but then I thought they became overdone. I missed color. My own tree has always had colored lights. My yard display is modest by most standards. I have two crystal light sculptures, but a colored one behind them.

Re: White lights or colored?
although i enjoy the color lights most... there are just certain spots that call for white lights
snowy areas you know? like the top of the roof, cicles, yada yada... but the majority of my yard is COVERED in colored lights

Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Yes. I love the colored lights, but it looks amazing with white lights against the snow. So I do white outside.

Re: White lights or colored?
Over the years, I've gone through light-color phases. For the first couple of years, it was clear. Another year, it was pink lights (they're actually more of a fuschia or light pinkish purple) on my Christmas tree and no particular light-color theme throughout the rest of the house. Another year it was multi-color on the tree, and another year it was teal. I had a teal living room carpet, so it was very pretty. Five years ago, I discovered my favorite and final light-colors -- red, white and green. My family room tree, which is the largest, has lights that have red, white and green alternating on the same string. Throughout the house, I have strings with red/green and other strings that are just green or red. In some places where I think it's appropriate, I might have clear lights. For example, I have pine garland with red berries draped all along my banister inside my house. If I put red or green lights on it, it might be too much of a color overkill. Clear lights work best for that. My windows have clear icicle lights. I originally had the red/white/green icicle lights, but all those strings stopped working. I went to buy new ones last year and found them after I had bought the clear ones and already hand them hung. The trees in my front yard are alternating red, green and white lights. What I didn't even think about when I got into this color theme is that these are the Italian flag colors and I'm of Italian descent. So that makes it extra cool!

Blue is my least-favorite color, but I will admit it looks strikingly beautiful against the snow. It definitely gives it a winter-wonderland effect. We get no snow here in Texas, so blue lights don't have the same effect as they do in colder, snowy climates.DemonSlayerMau wrote:I actually saw this discussion at the Christmas forums so I thought I would bring it up here at Halloween.com in the Christmas discussion area. I've always been partial to blue. Blue candles in the windows, and we used to decorate the big blue spruce in the center of the yard with blue lights, but it's just gotten too big to do any more.
I also like purple on my white artificial tree on the front porch.

Blue is beautiful along the house with white candlelights burning inside.
