Thanksgiving in Canada

Today is Columbus Day! And, Thanksgiving is in Canada today, too!

I remember Canadians always celebrate Tranksgiving every year in October. But we do celebrate Thanksgiving Day in November only. What's so difference?

As you know, Thanksgiving started witht he piilgrims. I don't know when the first Thanksgiving was celebrated, but it might have been October, or early November. The U.S.A tradition of having it on the 4th Thurday of November came about long after the original Pilgrim's original Thanksgiving feast. The "thankdgiving" feast, incidently, was a religious tradition that dates back to even before the pilgrims arived on the Mayflower. They were celebrated at any time they felt the need to thank God for their blessings, and that could be at any time of the year, and often was.

I've sort of revitalized that old Christian Thanksgiving tradition, and observe my birthday through thanksgiving rather then buying myself a gift. I even barbecue a turkey out on the grill, and I attend Mass if there's one being offered on that day.
