Halloween costumes from when you were a kid
I just posted about pin-the-nose-on-the-pumpkin from when I had my birthday parties, and it made me think about all those costumes from when I was a kid. I remember having this pink poofy dress and wings and going as a fairy or a kid from my class went as a homer hanky for the MN Twins. The best thing about these was that they were home made.
I just wanted to know what your favorite costumes were from when you were younger or if someone else had a costume that you won't ever forget!

My favourite costume as a child was when I went dressed up as a Jester - my mum's friend worked for a theatre company and let me borrow the costume for a party - I was head to toe in yellow and red, with a huge 3 pronged hat and curled pointy shoes. I was also covered in bells so made even more noise than usual I won the costume competition and was so chuffed

lol! I wondered when I was going to say something that doesn't exist in the US! "Chuffed" is a slang word here in the UK which means "happy/pleased/smug etc"

I remember one Halloween I guess I was about 8 or so, had dark stick-straight hair, chin length, bangs. My mom dressed me up as a china doll, complete with little red silk jacket, makeup to make my eyes look oriental, and pouty red lips. Don't know why that one sticks with me, but it does. Wonder what happened to that little red jacket????

One of my favorite costumes from childhood was a clown (sorry MHooch!). My mom made the whole thing from old clothes and used her lipstick for makeup. In fact, my brother had some old home movies (reels) put on DVD and I'm in one of the scenes in this costume...smiling from ear to ear. I was about 6 or 7 years old.

I never liked the costumes I wore as a kid. When we were real little kids, my brother & I wore these orange hobo costumes. So we had to put on black makup for beards, and stuff.
I never really liked it.
When we grew out of that, my grandmother made a set of clown costumes, and that went over like a lead balloon. (I've already posted about what I think of clowns somewhere else.)
Then, grandma made a ghost costume for me once, and that too didn't sit right with me. It was itchey and the hood made me look like some KKK guy. So I hated it with a passion.
It's not until I started to go to the bars, and they had costume contests. that I started to work on my own costumes and find out what I really liked.

Thanks for all posting!! I was reading your comments about homemade costumes and the creativity. The boys down the block wore blaze orange sweatsuits one year and then taped on stripes with black electrical tape and went as tigers!! I can't wait to make homemade costumes for my kids someday.
