Is there room under that rock for another dinosaur or two?

I truly don't get the appeal of most of this stuff, but clearly it has appeal for a great many people. I guess it helps if you first see it when you are very young and have no generic expectations.

Murf has a good point. I was a teenager when I started watching anime so that might be why I get it in some areas and not get it in other areas depending on which show or movie.

Most anime is going to reflect Japanese culture to some extent, and while I didn't have much knowledge of Japanese culture back when I first started watching it I know about it somewhat now. It helps to know it. I'm not however an expert on it. I wish they taught us more about it in schools. Eastern Culture is a lot different than Western Culture. But I would think somewhere in the dawn of civilization they would share roots.

But I can see how it can be confusing.

If someone is going to watch anime for the first time, I wouldn't start with something that has a complicated plot. I'd go for something simple. You also have to consider what's age appropriate as well. Kenshin and Inuyasha are a little more on the grown up side I think; however something like Kiki's Delivery Service, Pokemon (as far as I know anyway), Sonic the Hedgehog (they made an anime OVA movie based off Sonic), and a few others are more kid friendly; though some animes have been censored specifically to be appropriate for kids. Personally I don't like it when they do stuff like that, but oh well.
