Hi Folks:

Way, WAY back in the early 80s, a very different kind of a 'soap opera' aired on WGN in Chicago. It was originaly marketed and broadcast in Australia, but it was one of my favorite tv shows. It's not a Halloween or horror show. It was a series about a ficticious women's prison in Austrailia. Wentworth Detention Center was the name of the institution.

Some of the more noted characters were Bea Smith, prisoner, Vera Bennet, guard, Joan Ferguson, guard, Rita Conners ("bikie" prisoner) Lizzy Birdsworth an elderly prisoner with a pensen for making wisky, and a whole host of others.

I was wondering if any of you have seen this, or are fimiliar with this show.

Mike

I used to watch it, also on WGN but via cable TV.

iHaunt, I don't know how the tv critics liked it, but I did very much enjoy it, because it was very realistic, down to the appearance of the actors chosen for the various roles. They were very ordinary people, not glamorous movie star types.

I thought it was quite well done. Some of the episodes are available through Netflix, but there are huge gaps.
