Congratulations to Arizona! Such a beautiful state. I always tell people that whenever they picture the beauty of the Southwestern desert, they are picturing Arizona.

I never been to Arizona since about 2007 because my friend that used to live there moved to Las Vegas Nevada.

I always like it except in summer where it just becomes too hot. I like colder temperature so I don't become discomforted.

I love Arizona, and Nevada. I may retire to one of those states if Studio O'Brien Photography doesn't pan out.

You know you're in Arizona when ...

  • You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.
  • You can say 110 degrees without fainting.
  • You eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off.
  • You can make instant sun tea.
  • You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
  • The temperature drops below 95, you feel a bit chilly.
  • You discover that in July, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
  • You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.
  • You notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
  • Hot water now comes out of both taps.
  • It's noon in July, kids are on summer vacation, and not one person is out on the streets.
  • You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
  • You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. before work.
  • No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning.
  • Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
  • You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

Those made me laugh. Some of those apply to the deep South as well. I could relate to the two-finger driving method.

I passed through Arizona in the Summer of 99 on my way to Cali, and I don't remember it being that hot at all. In fact, it was pretty nice. Dry and about mid 80s. Maybe it was unseasonably cool or something. I rode down old Route 66. Passed through Windslow, among other towns. It was about mid July to early August.

Oklahoma, on the other hand, was MISERABLE. I passed through a town where the temperature read 112 degrees, and I was starting to see spots in front of my face. I had to pull over and stop for some ice water and a break.

I was on my motorcycle on that trip. I 1997 Honda Valkyrie. IT was a fun trip. but as I said before, Oklahoma was the only time I was bothered by heat. The rest of the trip was very pleasant.

oh, believe me, 110-120 is normal for Arizona in the summer, I was in Phoenix and I hated every day I was there, not just because of the weather (altho I did love the monsoons), but the scenery (I hate the desert), the drivers, the rude people, etc etc....

Spooky, I had just the oposite experience. The people were very nice, though very few and far between. My stay in Flagstaff was really nice, and I also loved the 'old west' look to the whole state. I am seriously considering retireing to Arizona if Studio O'Brien Photography doesn't work out. Heck, I might even relocate there any way and start up my photo business there.
