The Witch's familiar (story idea)

Post by DemonSlayerMau » Sat Sep 12, 2009 8:06 pm

This is just an idea for another story, again I havn't written it yet, I'm just going over some ideas for a story told in the perspective of a witch's familiar.
The familiar of course, is your traditional black cat. I think it'll be told in kind of a first person perspective with the cat as the one telling the story.
The name of the cat is Jasper. He's thousands of years old, born during the salem witch trials he had a very tragic beginning. His mother and siblings were drowned, and he was the only survivor. He was found and taken in by a kindly old woman, a good natured witch who would cleverly evade the trials and massive witch murders of the time.
Jasper being a familiar, can potentially live forever as long as he's placed in the will of another witch or warlock. As long as he serves that witch or warlock, he'll remain ageless. It won't be impossible for him to die of course, he can still be drowned or killed, but normal old age doesn't affect him like other mortal beings.
Over the centuries he learns to speak the language of humans. Eventually it's present time, with cars and electricity, and by then the practice of witchcraft is kept so hush hush, that no one believes they really exist anymore.
Unfortunately for Jasper, the witch he is serving now is wicked, and wants to use her powers to gain an influence in society and the government, and does very cruel things.
Jasper also learns a secret, that could potentially set him free, and meets a young human girl who has a remarkable talent for magic. He takes a strong liking to her, and wants to mentor her in a sense.
Also, familiars in this particular story, are actually more powerful than the witch's they serve! And this all ties into a reason why familiars must serve witches, and cannot use their powers against them.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

i think its a great idea :) i too have been writing a story based on witches! i'm 20 chapters in and its just so exciting :)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!
