This Place if Picking Up! Halloween 2008 Contests!

Post by Snoopy/Red Baron » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:32 pm

Good to see the surge of people participating. For those of you who don't already know, we are going to have a pumpkin carving contest this year! I thought it would be fun to have a costume contest and a house decoration contest too.

I am volunteering to buy nice ribbons for each category or perhaps trophies for the winners. What do ya'll think?

Picture submissions (honor system) and member voting?

I think that's a great idea, though I stink at those things LOL. Maybe we could make blinkies for the winners to post in their signature here on the board? Then we can display our pride if we win right here!! :)

Snoopy-

It's great to see someone taking charge and organizing a contest (or a few contests). Thanks! I don't know if you want to put together a specific list of rules for entry now (while things are a bit slower) or later... but if you need assistance with anything, I think I can squeeze in some time to help out. Let me know.

As for ribbons or trophies, I agree with Rachel. I think in an internet setting, a small graphic for a signature file would work better. Something not-too-big, but not-too small. I really do appreciate your generous offer to buy trophies or ribbons, but in this setting... none of us would be able to see the award.

If there are any ideas for graphics, there should be someone around here who can toss them together. If you decide to go the graphics route, someone would need to decide on an acceptable file size and image size and where to host it...

If by ' blinkie' you mean simple animated gifs, I could make some.

I haven't been making them for very long, but here is a small sample of my work (including my avatar):

Ahhh! *runs and hides*

Andy, your graphics are fantastic... I just have a personal vendetta against the animated bling. =)

Maybe you are forced to look at Myspace pages too often?

Those are first tries. I'm working on some other styles as well :)

Here's a style we use for my scrapbooking board, more like moving pictures then glittery, these are fairly simple to make in Photoshop Elements.

Actually i should make one of these for myself for this board :) Oh and if we do these, I know someone mentioned where to host, the gif file can be sent to the winner and they can host it whereever they choose (photobucket for instance) and then sport it in their siggy here.

This is a great idea. It'll make me push the boundaries of my creativity. From what I've seen most of you don't mess around when it comes to Halloween crafts and decorating, so I'm gonna have to try hard to stay on par with everyone.

I love being involved, but I fear all I could do is carve. I live in a 2bedroom upper and I decorate ALL of it, but I don't have run of the whole house so my decorating could never compete. And if I get a graphic, it had better Bea Evil - hee haw...
