Oh, it's already our favorite time of year! I celebrated the arrival of autumn with a pumpkin soup supper last night!

Yesterday was the beginning of meteorological autumn.

And like magic things went up all over the house in coppers golds and Aamber.

Actually Halloween may be my favorite holiday, and October may be my favorite month, but Summer remains my favorite season of the year.

Oh, October is my favorite month, for sure. I enjoy all the seasons in their turn.

So do I, Murf. Every season has it's own unique quality. Summer is my fav, however because of conditioning. Summer was when school was out, and I had the 4th of July and my birthday to look forward to with no homework hanging over my head or tests to study for until September. The conditioning somehow stuck, and Summer is still and probably always will be my favorite season. BUT, October is my favorite month, as it's the Halloween season, and Halloween has become my favorite holiday of the year. When I was a kid it was December and Christmas, but as an adult, it became October and Halloween, with July and the 4th being a very close 2nd. Actually Halloween and 4th of July are about tied for first, not that I think of it.

As for weather, I am not a huge fan of ice and snow, and Summer doesn't have any of that. I do get bitten by mosquitos from time to time, and there were a couple of times I had to fight off a bee or a wasp, but at least I didn't slip on the ice and break my melon.

As a child, I definitely loved Christmas the best, but as an adult, Oct and Halloween have really won me. I still love Christmas, but it is a lot of work. Not only is it work to provide for kids at that time of year, and to do all that cooking, but my husband and I are both singers, so we usually have many vocal obligations, including solos, right up through Christmas Eve. And when our kids were in school, every extracurricular and club they belonged to had a party. It became an exhausting season.

Halloween is pure fun, with no expectations impending. I love it.

That's my take on it, too. I don't have any kids, but it seems that Halloween has the most amount of fun for the least amount of work. AND I do plan to cook up some turkey wings in the Crock Pot for Thanksgiving, and I might even get an artificial tree to put up for Christmas this year, but Halloween and the 4th of July will always be my two favs in my adult and old age years.

I don't have a swt menu for Halloween, but I do have tons of autumnal cookbooks to browse and experiment with.

I have gotten so I do a TOT trifle for my husband's b-day. Devil's food cake, chocolate pudding, redi-whip, crumbled Heath bars or some other candy.

That sounds like it would taste great. I just might make a batch or two of fudge brownies, and frost them with that coconut frosting you see on German Chocolate cakes.

We had a fantastic rain band go through last night and on and off all day today, blowing out most of the smoke from the big fires that have been burning for 2 weeks now. I opened up all the windows that were sealed against smoke, got out baking ingredients and whipped up a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

Right now it's sitting in the fridge so that the frosting sets up overnight.

Andy, that sounds like quite a nice desert. When it comes to deserts, however, I'm pretty much relegated to the realm of mixes. I can barbecue, and I can make quite a few meals from scratch, but baking was never my forte. I suppose since I'm retired, it might not be a bad idea to learn.
