Halloween Discussion Forums, Costumes, Horror!

This is a very important topic. Halloween safety is very important. So many bad things can happen on Halloween just because people can be stupid, or just plain evil. Chaos is another factor. And everyone knows accidents happen.

So if you have anything such as safety ideas you would like to submit, or even just discuss experiences pertaining to the topic, please jump in.

For my part I want to emphasise the importance of neighborhood watches. Whether it is set up with the help of local police, which is highly suggested, or it is merely a handful of neighbors looking out for one another, please consider neighborhood watches on Halloween night. Their really are monsters out there. They're not just out on October 31st, they're out there all the time. And they're not the kind of monsters that fly or have fangs. They're the kind of monsters you can look up on Sheriff's Department websites.

Then eat it for the kids, keeps them in shape.

Your's really IS an impotant thread, NOS! Halloween has GOT to be one of the MOST "TRUSTING" of all holidays.
We encourage our children all the year through to "NOT TALK TO STRANGERS", then once a year (at NIGHT, mind you) pat them on the butts and REJOICE in HELPING them knock on every door they can and have strangers give them candy!

Good point Nos. I always keep a watch out on Halloween night in particular with all the kids out and at risk. I spend most of the TOTing hours on my front stoop handing out candy and watching the street. I think if everyone did something similar, a lot or tragedies could be avoided.

My biggest safety fear on Halloween night is..

Fire!

I'm so worried about the Jack O' Lanterns and about people getting drunk and knocking a candle over or standing too close to a flame and their costume going up in flames I do everything I can to make sure that all candles are out of reach and out of the way.

Same with me Magickbean. I keep my JOL's away from the steps where TOTers come for the goodies. The only JOL allowed near the steps is my electric one. My kids are older but I don't allow my son to drive around that night - too tempting to do something stupid if he's with his friends. Basically, I keep an eye out for my neighbors and my kids and shut down by 8:30 - lights out - no exceptions.

Yes, check that list out. But honestly, don't only refer to that list. Look up Halloween safety on google for a load of resources.

Flashlights and glow sticks and reflective tape! Ya can never have to much of it.

Also find out if yourt local sherrifs department or state troopers have a website which indicate the addresses of convicted predators.

What if the cops are catching the halloween pranksters, so what are they going to do with them? Give them the summons or lock 'em up? You know, some pranksters love to play practical jokes on cops, and everyone, no matter who! Well, the cops think a JOKE is not really funny, but can be very serious! It is still a criminal! Well, is that true?

Okay....

If the pranksters are pranking in any way that falls under the definition of a crime or midemeanor, then charges can be brought up on them. Vandalism for instance. Contributing to delinquency. If someone who is getting pranked get seriously hurt, you're seriously in deep dookoo.

Many times if kids are caught before doing any real harm, the cops escort them home to their parents. Every parent Loooves a cop knocking on the door.

And pranking a cop...could get you shot. Or at the very least tazed.

There are a couple neiborhoods that my family sticks to. All the houses go all out. and I dont like my son to be more than 10 feet away. I am also very worried about fires too. Thats why this year in getting the led lights instead of tea lights. Everyone just needs to keep there eyes peeled.

Yeah, the tendancy is to get too comfortable. Halloween is a fun time, but if you have kids, you're on guard duty all night.

And also, I'm really worried about some kids out there on the street for tricking or treating on Halloween night... You will never know there are some Halloween Thieves or Robbers, you know, they love to wear masks and hide somewhere wait for the kids to show up, they will run and grab their candy bags, maybe rob their masks and costumes as well... In other ways, they (thieves and robbers) also love to steal some people's yard props, lights, everything else, you know? For that safety reason to do is put on the security light, and also, the video camera on the window to capture the theieves and robbers. Any tips?
