Pumpkin Gutter
I can't believe I haven't posted anything about this website yet!

This school teacher carves the most amazing 3D pumpkins. They're so delicious to look at. If you get the chance, make sure you visit his website. He updates a ton during October, and it's neat to see what crafty things he puts into his gourds. =)

There's a time lapse video somewhere on the site that's fun to watch. It's amazing how fast he carves his p-kins.
I think he uses wood carving tools... There is also a list of tools in the FAQ, which is highly amusing to read.
I use these tiny p-kin master sculpting tools to do 3D, but the tools are so small... ugh... it took me 8 hours to carve my p-kin last year and I STILL didn't exactly finish.

I was going to try using some clay sculpting tools, then I thought, "Right... They gotta be sharp, like steel." So there went THAT idea.
But I wonder if you can get the same "sort" of effect with fimo or sculpty? Just not use a candle, and make a pumpkin on such a large scale, but maybe with a lump of clay about the size of a tennis ball and an LED light inside...
(Rusty gears in Wolfie's head are turning once more...)
Anyone got some WD-40?

Actually, they don't have to be sharp "like steel". I bought a sculpting kit a few years back that's ALL PLASTIC. I'll have to get it out and post photos of it. It's so NOT STEEL. My husband actually bought me some wood carving tools from a hobby store for $15, which I was going to try this year. Then, a friend showed me a pumpkin carving dremel tool at Lowe's... which I splurged on this year!I B Howlin' Wolfman wrote:I was going to try using some clay sculpting tools, then I thought, "Right... The plastic tools I have are alright. I carved THREE 3-D p-kins with 'em. I only have photos of 2 of them, though.

Re: Pumpkin Gutter
Anyone see the movie Legend? The one pumpkin there looks like the devil/demon leader from that movie.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

I'll take that as a compliment, seeing as I used a graphic of "Darkness" in order to do the pumpkin sculpture.DemonSlayerMau wrote:Anyone see the movie Legend? The one pumpkin there looks like the devil/demon leader from that movie.
PumpkinGutter.com is listed in the latest installment of "Ripley's Believe it or Not" book. Check it out sometime. =)
