"Other" Jack o' lanterns

Post by DemonSlayerMau » Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:24 pm

The original Jack wasn't a pumpkin. There was a website that featured "the evolution of jack" where a guy attempted to carve different fruits and vegetables into a jack o' lantern. I'd show it off but it has content that might not be suitable for children, so I'd have to clarify it with an admin or mod first.
Anyone here ever tried it? I havn't, but I think it'd be interesting.
My mom's growing some squash that have seemed to cross breed with her pumpkins. They even look like pumpkins! And some of the pumpkins have taken on squash qualities. Pumpkins are technically a squash after all. So squish (our family nick name for squash) is a cousin of the Pumpkin XD; Some people use gords and squashes to decorate with.
Wouldn't recommend eating a gord though, heard they were poisenous. But they resemble tiny squishes.
The first jack I believe was a beet. Imagine carving that? I always thought it'd be interesting carving an apple. (That might make an interesting treat for kids, edible jack o' lanterns XD; Healthy too XD; )
Anyway, thoughts on alternative fruits? It may be an option for people allergic to pumpkins.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

That is not AT ALL how Halloween, the jack o lantern and trick or treating started. Jack Chick is bad news!!

Read the rest of this comic and just laugh it off. Halloween is not evil. I believe God, Jesus and Satan are real but Halloween, Dungeons and Dragons and Harry Potter are NOT from the Satan!!

*sigh* I don't believe Halloween is some evil holiday nor do I believe Harry Potter is evil either.
Yeah I believe in God and all that...but I'm getting tired of the way religion over reacts about stuff. (Granted, I don't like atheism either...)
It's just all in good fun. So what what they did in the past. Yes, there are evil people out there, but I know for a fact that not all pagans/witches are evil and sacrifice animals either. Pagans/Wiccans believe in the earth spirits, they don't believe in God and the Devil they believe in the God and the Goddess. They like to live in harmony with nature.
Unfortunately Christians have gotten too extreme in their beliefs. Personally, I just don't believe in extreme organized religion, but I do believe in God and Jesus and the Devil and stuff. Though I also believe all life has a spirit/soul.
The lawns are supposed to be scary to drive evil spirits away, or so what is believed.
