I used to do it the night before. Last time I carved a real one, I had a slip-up with my knife and the face of my werewolf jack collapsed on me when I was up against a deadline! Now I'm strictly artificial pumpkins--I start carving in early September and go into late October. I currently have a pumpkin army of around 24 assorted jacks from the last few years 8)

It all depends, the times we start carving usually aren't consistent but this year it's probably gonna be a few days before. :)

Usually a few days before. I had four children living here a few years ago, and they would each carve one.

My niece wanted hers done night before last, so I did hers. I'll get more and have them carved right before the big night..like maybe a week.

The natural ones, no more than one day before. I dislike having to carve them furiously on Halloween morning, but sometimes it comes down to that.

I find that, if I do them any earlier, they start deteriorating too quickly.

Ideally, I like to clean them one day and carve them the next. I don't always get around to that, either.

I carve 'em whenever I have the time-- but try to get 'em as close to Halloween as possible. I can pretty much get the real ones to last a good, long while.

This year, I will probably carve them on the weekend before Halloween.

Our main bulk will be done on the 30th. I may carve one before though & put it out every night to see how long it'll last.

I think it was Jade who was able to keep a real pumpkin 'alive' for a good long while--she can probably give everyone tips on how to do it. Or you can just look for her thread :)

Yes I can remember that thread.

I can't remember exactly what to do, covering it & placing it in the fridge or something was it? I'll have a look around & try & find the thread.
