Haven't seen a really good movie in a while. I would love to see something new that didn't make me feel like I have just wasted 2 hours of my life.

Saw Cemetery Junction the other week. Sounds like a horror movie, but it isn't. It were pretty decent.

That sounds like a movie my husband could get into.

This afternoon I watched The Libertine on DVD. It's Johnny Depp's portrayal of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester (late 1600s). I wrote about Rochester in grad school, so I got the DVD for that reason and also because I like Depp. Rochester was not a nice guy. No way would I watch this movie if my kids were in the house.

ETA: Whoops! I thought I was right beneath the post about Law Abiding Citizen. My husband would like something like that. I don't think he'd be into a movie about cemeteries. Not, that is, if it really had anything to do with spooks or something. He isn't into the horror or scary movie genre, except for laughs.

Heh heh heh... No, I don't think it had anything at all to do with cemeteries, come to think of it....

Watched Beowulf and Grendel tonight. I'm probably one of the only people who liked it.

Is that with Gerry Butler? I've never forgiven him for ruining The Phantom of the Opera. :x

Yep, I didn't even realize it was him until after. Some of it was pretty stupid but it was simple and felt like it had been made in 1988 so I liked it.

I like the Beowulf that came out several years ago. Anthony Hopkins played Hrothgar, but I don't recall who played Beowulf. It was that computerized stuff anyway, so the actors did and didn't look like themselves. I don't think it was Butler, though. Angelina Jolie played a very seductive Grendel's mother.

I translated Beowulf in grad school, so I was very aware of the many changes they made to the story. However, I liked it anyway. (Truth to tell, I wasn't such a huge fan of the original story, so I actually thought they improved it.) I loved that they included a little Old English in a scene or two.

I think maybe Beowulf & Grendel is something else, though.

I like Gerard Butler fine, in everything except Phantom of the Opera. It was stupid that they cast someone who was essentially a non-singer in the role of the Phantom. If the Phantom doesn't have his voice, he doesn't have much of anything. And the make-up job was laughable when they tore his mask off. I mean, he looked like he needed a little Clearasil, not like some monster that couldn't go out into daylight.

Do you know American soul singer, Curtis Mayfield back in 1970s and 1980s? He died at 56 in 1999 from chronic diabetes, I believe.

That was funny movie! I saw it a few times long time ago. The other night I watched "Dukes of Hazzard" with Sean Scott William and Johnny Knoxville. It was funny movie, too.

MST: Horrors of Spider Island. I think I would have done a lot of punching men in the face if I lived in the 1950's. Or anywhere else I could punch them would be good.
