Yep. From Mississippi originally, have lived all over the South (Texas; Georgia; Richmond & Staunton, VA). I have family ties to Arkansas & Alabama also. But my husband is a Tennessean. My sons were born in VA, my daughter in TN.

I've been there in Staunton, VA b/c I went to Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. Not really so much in Richmond, VA before. Yes, I was there in Hampton at Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind when I was teenager. My girlfriend was from Miami, Florida b/c her mom moved there from Cuba. Right now, they're living in Virginia Beach, VA.

There are some FANTASTIC 'haunted' destinations in all those states you mentioned. The South is teaming with paranormal activity, and if I ever do get my finances where I can travel more regularly then I do, I plan on making several trips to Mississippi, Tennesee, and Georga just to name a few. Atlanta Ga is one of the most haunted cities in the world, from what I understand, and there are a lot of abandoned old haunts all over the south that my camera and I are just itching to capture.

Yes, I do remember Mary Baldwin college. I've not been in Staunton, VA since 1997. I heard so many ghost stories over there. So do you visit Staunton regularly, or what? Have you been around downtown in Staunton?

By the way, I joined VSDB in 1990 and graduated there in 1995. I didn't visit there until 1997. I only heard some of my teachers are retired now. Some are dead.

I lived in Staunton from 1987-1994, so our time there must have overlapped. My first son was born there in '89, and my second in '93. They were born at King's Daughters' Hospital, which has since been torn down. That was a big political flap at the time, how the Staunton hospital people unwisely merged with the Waynesboro people, and the hospital got moved to Fishersville, between the two towns. I haven't been back since 1995. I do still have friends in the area, but we just don't hit the road much, unfortunately. It was a very pretty little town, especially in the fall. And there was this one street (I'm trying to remember the name--shoot, I could walk to it if I were there--Sherwood Avenue, maybe? Off of Coalter?)--anyway, it was one of those streets that decorated to the hilt on Halloween, like a carnival or something. That was my older boy's first experience of TOTing. I used to hear that some people would drive to it from Charlottesville, 38 miles away, it was that big a deal.

I have heard that there is a Shakespearean theater in Staunton now. One of my former colleagues, Frank Southerington, is deeply involved with it. I used to participate in community theater at Oak Grove (in Verona, out in the woods) every summer. Loved that, too.

One of my friends in Staunton has a son, mid-twenties, who is up for a teaching position at the school for the Deaf & Blind. He is a musician and is legally blind himself, although he did not attend that school (she home-schooled him until high school, then sent him to a parochial school). Anyway, he is possibly going to be teaching music to the blind there.

What was the name of that little pub downtown, on Frederick Street? MacAllister's? Mac something.

The Woodrow Wilson Birthplace is in Staunton, too, right across from MBC. I used to go there occasionally, with my kids or with out-of-town guests.

Do you remember a restaurant called the Pampered Palate? That was downtown, too, and they used to serve authentic English high tea at certain times, or days of the week. They also used to have the most delicious cake, some kind of banana cream-chocolate chip cake.

I don't recall.... But, I've been there at Mexican restaurant and also, another one I ususally attended there I forgot the name of the good small restaurant where an old man and woman used to serve great hamburgers, onion rings, french fries. Do you remember the name of it? I think it was supposedly to be named Thomas' restaurant?

Also, Trinity was old enough that it had the churchyard cemetery, right there in the middle of town. Some very old graves there.

You guys are making me hungry. I love those 'mom & pop' hamburger places better then I do the big chain restaurants. It's the same with pizza. Pizza Hut, Little Ceasars and Pappa John's are okay, but nothing beats those old traditional 'mom & pop' Italian eateries that you find way too few and far between these days.

At any rate, I hear the city of Alanta Georga mentioned a lot on ghost hunting 'reality tv" shows, and would love to go down there to some of the haunts with my camera. There's also a place in Luisiana, way out on the Bayou (spelling?) that I would like to see. It's supposedly one of the most haunted places in the state. Virginia slso has a few interesting sounding haunts, as does Alabama and Mississippi. Again, money is the main issue right now.

Well, I"ll be in Atlanta in a couple of days, but I'm going to see a play and visit with some friends. Doubt I'll do any ghost hunting, unless the theater is haunted! (As many of them are.)

We have ghost stories associated with our local Civil War Battlefield, Stones River. My husband worked there as a teen and knows some good ones.

iHaunt, I"m sorry to say that my husband didn't recall that restaurant. I expect he would have loved it, too!

I have no immediate plans to go back up to Staunton, but I could someday, as I am still in touch with a few friends from my Staunton years. My older boy, who was born there, has been up to D.C. twice this year, but even he just sort of waved to Staunton from the highway!
