I just.don't.get. why some people will vandalize a cemetery. I know it happens. It happened around here a couple of years back. IMO it is such a cowardly thing to do.

in most states vandalizing a cemetery in a felony, just the same as vandalizing a church, I dont know why people would want to risk it...

Spooky, it blows my mind to hear that teenagers would treat the cemetery as a hang out spot, especially as a place to party. No offense ihuant, but it seems like the last place i would want to hang out with friends at night would be in a cemetery and i would have NEVER disrespected a sacred burial ground in that way.

Oh, I'm not surprised that teens would do it. That age group is fascinated by death and the macabre, anyway; and cemeteries are quiet, generally off-limits after dark, which also appeals to the streak of rebelliousness most kids have, and their need for privacy. I'm not at all surprised that kids would go there to prove they aren't afraid, or to drink alcohol or smoke pot, or to make out. What I don't get is why they would damage or deface grave markers. However, if they were drunk, that might explain some of that behavior, too.

I was a teenager once myself, and I can understand the curious attration to places like Bachelors Grove. I would even encourage younger people to visit these places for their own learning experience, but if they bring so much as a single can of spray paint, or bottle of beer into the place, then that's when they should be locked up. Not all teenagers are like that. In fact, the old sying "one bad apple spoils a whold bunch" comes into play. It isn't fair to judge all teenagers by the actions of a few, and I remember bitterly resenting it when all of us would be penalized for what one or two people do. I remember in High School, the Senior class is required to attend a religious retreat. In all the previous years, the seniors had a cooice to take advantage of the bus transportation, or they could drive their own cars. The year before my senior year, two idiots decided to get drunk, and ended up in an accident. It was just 2 people in one car, who were out to "have fun." The following year, NOBODY was allowed to drive their own car, so they crammed the entire senior class onto 2 school busses. Finding a seat was like winning the Illinois State Lottery, and a bunch of us had to stand all the way to the retreat houses, for a 2 hour and 40 minute drive.

That's exactly what happend when 2 or 3 A Hs valdlize or desecrate a cemetery. One stupid kid is caught peeing on a tomb stone, and the kney-jerk reaction is "Keep thos $$&&*$% kids out of here!!!" EVERYONE pays for the actions of the very few 'bad apples."

no one should be in the cemetery after it's closed anyway. but yeah, a lot of teenagers go in the cemetery to party just because it's "cool", most of the time they would just leave a huge mess like bottles and cans and other trash, sometimes they did damage. They know no one is there to call the cops and it freaks out the chicks...and you know what scared chicks do ;)

Mike, I believe I posted "Make Love At The Cemetery" somewhere here about 2 or 3 years ago... I really can't recall. It was about a lady posting the ad looking for a guy to have fun at the cemetery something like that, you know?

I agree with you, Spooky. There is really no reason to be in a cemetery when it's closed, and besides that, you can't get any really decent photos, anyway after the sun goes down. Sure, you can use flash, but the ambiend darkness is so over powering, it really doesn't do much good. And again, when ever I go on a 'haunted road trip,' I do my best to be respectfull of the property owners or the cemetery patrons in question. I take NOTHINT but pictures, and I leave NOTHING but foot prints. Most young people are the same way. The ones I ran into at Bachelor's Grove last August were very polite, respectful and there was no sign of vandlism or drinking. They appeared to be late High School age or early College Age, but clearly all of them were under 20. The mosquitos drove them out of the place, for the most part, as they ultimately drove me out of there, but I would not kids like that at all.

iHaunt, I do remember that post about making love in a cemetery, and I did post a couple of notes to it, but for the most part, I prefer to 'make love' in the confort and convenience of my bed room. I am a very private person when it comes to that sort of thing, and I would not want some one to see my gf and me in that situation. Besides, that would creap a lot of people out. Not to be judgemental. What ever "floats your boat," but love making, for me, is best done in my bed, and all ways done in private.

As a security manager myself, I can agree with the other members that it is not all one would think it should be. I always felt that cemetery's were beautiful and peaceful at night. I can't tell you how many stories there are about people doing drugs or having <deleted>. Actually, one of them was a guard who called out to patrol that he refused to go back into the cemetery because there was a UFO flying around above it. My friend was the patrol supervisor at the time and aside from being irritated, he was also quite amused!

A UFO??? That must have been fun. And in a cemetery no less. Perhaps there's an alien friend of theirs burried there.

I agree with you, Mike. I prefer make love in my own bedroom, maybe in the tent only in my own backyard. Not at the camp. :?
