Jack: Halloween was started in Ireland by the celts
It's not our fault, they pulled a mind scramble on us. They opened their eyes and talked.

Yes. But I put Britain because of the Scottish connection too.EDGAR FROG wrote:Jack: Halloween was started in Ireland by the celts
The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hÄÂlgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556.
But yea I know all about Ireland & the Celts. I love reading the history of it. I love the story of Stingy Jack - that's Irish.
I'ld love to visit Ireland someday.

Your more than welcome to come over anytime. Ireland has a rich history when it comes to the spirit world.

Yes, that was correct.
By the way, didn't any one of you know that in Scotland some people do celebrate May Day Festival? Just like in the movie "The Wicker Man" 1973 version.

Anyway believe it or not, I get called "anti-English" quite often! Long story, but I don't agree with certain things Englishmen have done in the past.
Oh & also that after World Cup 2010, I have completely given up on the England national football (soccer for you guys ) side & have not watched them since! I also gave my shirt away!

I was in Germany many years ago (like, 31 years ago), in May, and I saw decorated Maypoles in the Rhine River Valley. I don't know if the people had continued to celebrate that folk custom, or if it was a modern revival of an old tradition. But, yeah, you can still find that stuff here and there.iHaunt wrote:Yes, that was correct.

Re: Dress Up or Decor?
I didn't see the ceremony, just the decorated poles. I wasn't even there on May Day, but a bit later in the month.
My son lived in southern Germany in 2010. I'll have to ask him if he saw anything like that.
BTW, I take a magazine called German Life (as some of our family's ancestry comes from there), and they have an article this month about a werewolf legend in some town or other. I'll have to find it and see if I can scan it in.
