That rent is certainly above our pay grade in TN! California is beautiful and has many enjoyable things to do, both culturally and outdoors. Obviously they have a tremendous creative community. My cousins, who have lived there all their lives, love that they can get to either the mountains or the beach in an hour or two. The economic and political problems that state has faced in recent years make me sad. I fear it may also be a bellwether for the rest of the country. For example, my cousin's son is having trouble finishing college, because he needs one or two specialized courses that almost never get taught, due to budgetary problems (and when they do, they fill up in a snap--so much competition for them, with so many people out there).

Of course, I am a native Mississippian myself, and my home state is always at the bottom of every desirable list, and at the top of every undesirable one, it seems. Yet I loved Mississippi when I was growing up there, and the people I knew (and know) have very comfortable lives there. So statistics can be misleading in individual cases.

Murf: I feel bad for your cousins. They should just be happy that they are not in the next generation. I just read an article on how it may be tougher for younger people to break into the workplace as people's lifespan gets longer. Well, my cousins have a slew of college-aged and just-past-college-aged kids, so they are not immune from the issues facing the younger generation. I believe the youngest of their kids may just now be finishing the 6th grade.

I have always maintained that people should just pick up and move when they find they can no longer make it in any particular place, but it's hard when you have such an extended family in one place.

Despite all the flaws california may have, you can still visit it without the politics. I think the state is a beautiful place. THat horror camp out looks pretty cool. may go to Cali next summer so I will check that out. Remember every state has its corrupt politics and ways, DO NOT ever let that stop you from having an experience.

My older son just returned from a little over two weeks in California, where he spent his 24th birthday. He spent the first part of his vacation in & around San Francisco, and the second part in the LA area with my cousins. One of my cousins took him to Mexico for the weekend, and another taught him to surf. He had a blast!

Not trying to pile on, but I'm no fan of California either. The law abiding citizen is treated like a criminal and the criminal is treated like a God.

Law abiding people are taxed to the nth degree and their money goes to illegal aliens who get free education and medical care, and refuse to speak English. Tell American kids they can't fly the United States flag because it will offend non-Americans, but those same non-Americans can fly their flags at any time and place and that's okay, because in California they must respect all cultures except the American culture.

More tax money goes to people who can, but won't work, the most ludicrous far left wing laws, that not only impose a socialist agenda on the state, but actually tells people what they can and cannot say or think.

The most beautiful city in the United States is San Francisco, too bad it's in California and too bad it's run by such slime balls that it even make regular slime balls look bad in comparison.

They run commercials here for California Tourism, and they use people like Rob Lowe and Kim Kardashian as spokespersons? Yea! That goes over here like a lead balloon and just goes to show how out of touch California is with the rest of the country, because they're too stupid to see their commercials have the exact opposite effect from what is intended.

Arizona could deny LA their water, but the hypocrites in California decry such a move as being political and cruel. So typical of left wing thinking. It's okay to be cruel and political if you're in California because its a Forward Thinking State. Hitler said the same thing about NAZI Germany and Stalin said the same about the USSR.

There are plenty of places I can have an experience and know that me and my money are welcomed. California is not such a place.

I'll vote with my wallet and spend my money somewhere real Americans live and work.

This is what I was saying without actually saying it. It is the policies like those in California why I lost my job. And the corporate office in located in San Francisco. The company I worked for does many things, but mainly sells medical supplies and does medical billing. Anybody care to guess which law is the reason I was fired?
