Interesting discussion, not that I can add much to it.

Mike, I tend to agree with your post above, about the "technology scare" just being our 21rst-century form of paranoia. I go back to the words of the Nicene Creed, where the insistent point is made that Jesus was "begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made." The point being that you "beget" something like yourself, but you "make" or "create" something inferior to yourself. You make a doll but beget a child. It's hard for me to imagine making anything that is equal or superior to the one who made it.

Nevertheless, artificial intelligence is a brain-teasing concept, and I don't know the mechanics of it well enough to comprehend what it might be capable of. I do know that, right now, when my computer thinks it knows what I am about to say, what word I wanted to type, etc., it mainly just p***es me off. Because it rarely anticipates accurately.

Murf, that is exactly my point. Computers, cell phones, and all other technologies developed are made, not begotten, so I seriously doubt that these devices will rule over us.

As for cell phones and the like, I too, am very annoyed, especialy when I'm hearing them ring at the movies or at Sunday Mass. Very often, I'm enjoying an interesting conversation with a friend of mine, his or her cell phone rings, and I have to put up with an interuption and wait until the person on the other end is done. It's very annoying and it's also very rude.

Oh boy, Mike's not gonna like this one. Not at all.

They're not actually growing brains but if they continue the research it could possibly lead to that. Then we wouldn't have to worry about artificial intelligence, we could just put human brains in our machines. Actually, creepy as this is, I wouldn't mind having a spare brain laying around the house.

Considering the topic, check out a flick from way back in 1970, It was a movie called: Colossus: The Forbin Project.

Interesting. Has a 7.1 on IMDB. Is now in my queue. I wonder if that's where Cameron got the idea for Skynet from?

I admit I am not really elated about that particular scientific break through, but on the bright side of that coin, that could possibly be used to regenerate brain matter in patients who have suffered brain dammage. It's something to think about.

Hmmm... this robo-ape learning how to stand on two legs reminds me of something. What is it?
