Training class

Post by Boogeyman » Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:24 pm

Earlier this month, I started a training class for Comptia A+ which is for computer hardware and software. The local news came and shot some footage last week for a story on it. Today the story aired and here is the link for anyone that is interested.

I am the one in the second row in the grey shirt. When we are working inside the computer I am standing in the grey shirt and my arms folded.

It's great they are offering these services.

But what happens if you don't have a disability and are just having bad luck finding work? Do they still offer help with that?

They do. This program just happens to be only for those with disabilities.

The Achieve program, which is the program that I linked the flyer for, is for anyone. I was told about it during one of the required orientations for unemployment. The orientation just emphasized the resources available to aid in finding a job.

I have now taken both tests twice. I failed both the first time. I was 20 point shy on the first test and 88 points shy on the second test.

I took the first test again after a few more weeks of studying and passed that one on the second attempt. I took the second test today and passed it. I scored more than 100 more points on each test the second time when compared to the first attempt.

I am now officially A+ certified, which means I can do computer repair or work in an IT department somewhere. Now the next thing will be to get a paid internship somewhere until the call center is up and running.

I am so relieved as I have been working on this since January 2, which is when the class started.

Congratulations on your achievements Boogeyman! Here's hoping you'll find some decent work after all that training.
Speaking of training, I myself have decided to return to college and pursue a Bachelor's Degree in teaching. Wish me luck! :)

Wow. I do wish you luck. Also hope you can actually get a teaching job afterwards. My sister couldn't get a teaching job here in Michigan after she graduated. They were hiring teachers in other states though. She just didn't want to move.

Sometimes I think it's necessary to take risks in life. There's plenty of schools around here, so hopefully one of them will be hiring, though I am hoping to get a job here in the local area if I can.
It's hard to find a job no matter what you go for, but there will always be teaching jobs. Nothing can be more valuable than an Education (with perhaps a few exceptions like Health Care.) I'm sure I'll find one, and I hope I do. I'm also finding that there are many decent jobs out there that require a Bachelor's degree and I've decided this was the best route, as this shall give me the opportunity to pass on knowledge to young kids. I'm hoping to teach at the 7th and 8th grade level English. That's my goal. Why those grades? Because growing up, those were my best grades. I'd actually made it to the honor role and did best. Why English? Because I find that English is one of my best academic strengths and I also enjoy Literature. It would be fun to introduce a new generation of kids to certain books. Art and Literature are my favorite subjects, and while I enjoy Art just as much, I think writing and Literature are easier for me.
Thanks for the well wishes. I hope you find a job in what you're looking for as well. I have high hopes, and who knows, maybe by the time I'm done with my schooling, the economy will pick up a little more.

Good luck and best wishes to all job seekers!

Mau, getting a teaching job can be very political. If that is your goal, find out who TPTB are in your school district, and the surrounding districts. Often you will find that certain families are the gatekeepers. Try to make friends with the right people. And, of course, when you are doing your practice teaching (near the end of your college education), make an ally of your supervising teacher.

I do remember at work talking with a Special Ed teacher that comes in the store, and she seemed friendly enough. This was just when I was thinking about going for substitute teaching before deciding to step up to the plate and get a teaching degree and certification. I'll definitely keep that in mind, this is also why I'd like to volunteer at the local school when I get the opportunity. Right now though I'm going to be pretty busy with classes and my job, but I will definitely look into it when I can. My schedule is a full plate as I have classes every day for the entire week. Maybe I can try and do something on one of the days when I don't have as many classes, though that might be where my boss will want to schedule me to work.
I'll be working weekends of course.

Also, is it odd at all that I'm already looking forward to decorating a classroom for a certain holiday here that everyone loves? I know that's jumping ahead a few years, but I could see it now.

The Catholic school I attended did up all of the holidays well, old school.

We students made decorations and cut-outs to put up all over our classrooms & hallways.

To a working class little kid, it was like magic.
