Beware The Wheelers

Post by nak5ive » Thu Sep 27, 2007 4:16 pm

Ok, i've been wanting to do this for years:
create a functional Wheeler costume (as seen in the movie Return To Oz)

for a video of the wheelers, click here

My biggest hurdle, obviously, the wheels.

i've decided to perhaps go with 8" wheels commonly found on a wheelchair as seen below:
http://www.edmond-wheelchair.com/e&j_8inch_casters.htm

but if you watch the video, you'll see their fancy wheels are much different.
any ideas what kind of wheel to search for, for this costume?

i have everything else sorted out:
arm braces (the tops of some forearm crutches)
mounted wheels on old rollerblades
crazy clothes.
helmet with a scary face on top.

but the wheels i can't decide.
any help?[/url]

OMG I love that movie. Haven't seen it for years. The Wheelers always CREEPED ME OUT! Especially the noise they made. EEEK

Mrs. OEJ here again. Most of you know I'm THE Oz geek! Soon as I saw the subject I knew what these were!! Do you know the wheelers just from the movie or the book Ozma of Oz, too? They are really creepy in the books. Their wheels are actually part of them and they look like bone material. Gross!! Anyway, you might want to ask this question on the International Wizard of Oz Club forum, too. A lot of people that go to conventions go as book characters and they might have some cool ideas. And PLEASE post pics when you get your costume done. I'm sure we'd all love to see it!!

You might try Grocery cart wheel's or roller blade from roller skates, something from and old buggy might work too. Witchy
