I don't plan to waste what little gray matter I have left, worrying about what is and isn't politically correct. Let the politicians battle it out. It'll take forever, (as that's how long it's taking to get a national Medical System in place.)
In the meantime, I have a party/haunt I'm putting together. If someone has a problem with a costume party, tough beans. It's not even being HELD on Halloween! They can go write their congressman and get lost in the national buacracy.
OOoohh! Now that's SCARY!!!

Personally...I don't understand where anyone got the idea to call any of this stuff..."correct". I think right there is the problem, because it isn't "correct", to take other people's fun and happiness away from them.
None of these things actually hurt anybody.
I have always felt sorry for people who complain all the time about minor things, it's because they are miserable people, and have no life.
My house looks like a Haunted Amusement Park ride right now, and if people come here to stay, and they don't like Halloween...too bad for them...it's my house, and it's my life, and they can go somewhere else and be a giant frump.

Tell those dingleberries that their enfringing on your right to observe Satan's Birthday. And that Beaslebulb doesn't like anyone messin' with his followers. Then scream... "You have been marked! HA HA HA HA HAAAAA!" while dancing in a circle, waving your arms frantically, swinging around a decapitated chicken & throwing up pea soup. (Oh, it might be a good idea to rotate your head 2160 degrees and light yourself on fire while you're at it.) Chances are, they'll leave you alone for a while.
Works for me, every time.

Re:
I can not stop thinking about that COMPLETELY STUPID Thought Umbrella thing. WTF?!?! There is nothing wrong with the phrase BRAIN STORM it is a normal saying that has NO insults in it. And THOUGHT UMBRELLA sounds so stupid! BRAIN STORM means you sit at a table and ideas go flying everywhere. It really is a storm of ideas. But what does THOUGHT UMBRELLA mean? Caching ideas in an upside down umbrella? Sounds ok but bucket would be better. Or is it just to replace the words BRAIN and STORM? Either way it sounds stupid and it IS stupid because there is nothing wrong with BRAIN STORM. Why don't people worry about some real problems? Like racism? Worry about something that really is wrong, hurtful and offensive? This pisses me off so much!magickbean wrote:I would have to agree with Larissa on this one. I grew up with compulsory prayer in schools - and let me tell you, being physically FORCED to pray to a God that has nothing to do with your religion is very oppressive and made me feel terrible all throughout school. If I simply lowered my head quietly in respect for those praying around me, the prayer would not continue until EVERYONE had put their hands together and joined in - the Headmaster who was leading the prayer in an assembly one day at school actually humiliated me in front of the entire body of students and faculty because I wouldn't put my hands together. That's not a case of political correctness - that's tyranny.
That aside, however, I do agree with you about Political Correctness as a whole. As an English Language student, we are constantly being informed of the numerous words and phrases being replaced for less "offensive" versions. What I question is - who are these phrases offensive to?! An example is the phrase "brain storm" - now, obviously, this term is used to describe a chart of thoughts or ideas around a central theme. This term has been used for well over a decade with no problems. Now we are told that "brain storm" is being replaced by the phrase "thought umbrella" because it was thought that "brain storm" could be offensive to students who suffer from epileptic fits.
Where does it stop? Whilst I agree that racist, bigotted and profane language should be regulated and banned in public forum, you can't go round banning every phrase that upsets one individual or we won't have any words left! Language is one of the only outlets for most people to express themselves, and if you restrict that too harshly, you're taking away a basic freedom, the same as if you take away a person's right to celebrate a traditional custom or holiday.
We don't need Political Correctness, we need Common Sense.

Re: Political Correctness needs to die
Do they make you say Though Umbrella (Yuck, makes me sick! ) at some schools? Is the phrase Brain Storm banned?

Simple solution for all this.
If someone takes something you said wrong and out of context and says, "I'm offended."
Reply with this simple statement, "TOUGHEN UP THEN"

Ok the thought umbrella thing is just dumb.
As far as political correctness goes, it's just getting worse. I've completely stopped following politics this year. It does nothing but make me angry. You can't fix problems if you're not allowed to talk about them. I prefer to call something out when I see it, and if that offends somebody, too bad.
Like Nos said, toughen up.

Re: Political Correctness needs to die
If someone says they are offended just say "Well, too bad. Life is not always going to be perfect for you." I got over the thought umbrella. After I read it I just could not get over it. It was so stupid. They should ban words that REALLY ARE hurtful.
