if you could change or add one thing about halloween.....??

Post by SaNdERsOn SiStErs » Fri Oct 12, 2007 8:22 am

i live in the uk and here i live hardly anyone celebrates it proberly!! its quite sads because there is so much effort made in america and it would be fantastic to see more effort made over here!!

in my town most kids just cut a bin liner and pull it over their heads, no mask or nothing. and they dont even say "trick or treat" or "penny for halloween" they just stick their hands out and expect money or sweets. and you will get kids coming to your door from around the 25th of october right up untill the 2nd of november asking for cash. and only a handfull of doors will give out sweets, most of the people dread halloween week and avoid it as much as possible!
my town is a lovley place, voted one of the best places to live in the uk in 2003. alnwick. and its a shame such a great day gets ruined :(

so if i could add one thing it would be that everyone has to make an effort!! even adults, it doubles the fun!!

I would change it so that we had the range of decorations and party supplies that our friends across the pond have - Asda's selection this year was pretty dismal in comparison to previous years, with only a few really good items. TK Maxx do some great stuff but always sell out too quickly because they don't get enough stock in, and everywhere else seems to sell the same old <deleted>. It bugs me immensely! And if they do import things from the States, they charge us twice the price it would cost to ship it over ourselves. :(

Also - make the shops sell Candy Corn and Sugar Babies and all those other cool treats!

I'd make it so kids can trick or treat after dark and play harmless pranks again.
I'd make it so no-one would try to ruin it for everyone else.
I'd make it so it were more popular over here.
I'd make it so that candy corn was readily available (if not in national supermarkets, then at least in sweet shops (we have sweet shops over here that sell candy from the us ans the uk, but not very many of them sell candy corn))

Is this question ment only for those outside the US?

I'll assume it isn't and answer.

I don't think there is anything I would change about Halloween except I'd want it to be made national holiday when all business and schools were closed so it would be a whole day of parting for everyone. :D

I'm with you HH! I believe Halloween should be a holiday with a day off work for all. Unless, you're a Halloween hater...then you can work all you want, we don't care. I would also like to see a lighting ceremony every October 1st to mark the beginning of the month long celebration of Halloween. Of course, the lights should be in appropriate Halloween colors. Maybe a parade too. :D

I'd make it two days, like Christmas. Halloween Eve would be the normal 31st. of October. But it's "observed" on the Friday before as a three-day week end affair.

If the 31st. falls on a Friday, then the following Monday is the "observed" day of Halloween. Even if it's in November.

But, the banks MUST stay open. Make them earn those extra charges I have to give them for a freakin' checking account. Besides, the bank's get enough days off while everyone ELSE has to work. Like Columbus Day, and Martin Luther King's birthday.

I'm with Haunted Horseman and LawP for Halloween to be declared a National Holiday. I also would like to see 2 of the same things LawP does, and that's a Lighting Ceremony and Parade. I'd also like to see our City Decorate the town with Halloween decorations like they do at Xmas, and Halloween tours to all the homes that decorate in town, again just like they do a freakin xmas.
I would like to see more material such as Halloween History books to be for sale, do you realize how few children today know anything about Halloween History

And I would really like for all Animals to be safe.

Oh and I'd love to win a large Lottery so that I could afford to bring us all to the Salem Halloween Festival and Ball :D

And also be able to open a Year Round Halloween Store in Several locations including England for our Family members who live across the pond

I remember posting somewhere that I thought there should be a '13 Days of Halloween'. Kind of like Channukah. 13 days leading up to Halloween, itself, where you'd light a Jack-O-Lantern everyday and give gifts and tell stories.... You get the idea.

And I'd make traditional Halloween music more serious. I think the reason I can't stand songs like 'The Monster Mash' is that it's just too campy. It's cheezy and lessens the idea behind what Halloween is.

Take Type O Negative's 'Wolf Moon' for example. Now THAT'S a Halloween song!!!!

Or how about 'All Hallow's Eve'.......

Fall fires burn 'neath
Black twisted boughs
Sacrifice to above
Smoke swirling quickly
Towards misting clouds
Offering of this blood
Into the flames
And without shame
Consumed with howls
And screams
Pumpkins grin
In their despair
On All Hallows Eve

I would make it so it was like in the "old days" and the streets would have kids everywhere trick or treating. It seems like it gets less popular every year to go house to house.
