Speaking of zombies, RDM, your new avatar looks like the rat monkey from the classic Aussie zombie flick Braindead (Dead Alive). I like it!

There are 3 of Stephen King's books.
1. The Shining
2. Pet Sematary
3. Night Shift (Signet)

I haven't been on this forum for a while, and I'm just skimming this thread, so I've missed the intervening posts. But I love War & Peace--haven't read it in many years, but have been toying with the idea of rereading it. I read Anna Karenina, too, around the same time.MacPhantom wrote:Hmmm.... I thought Cell was one of his worst.
You probably won't believe it, but right now I'm reading War and Peace.
There's something about the way Tolstoy uses the omniscient narrator. Maybe it's the way he goes into the minds of animals sometimes, war horses & hunting dogs, or the way he can be with a character for a couple of sentences, and in those two sentences you know that person completely. I have always thought that if God were going to write a novel, War & Peace is the novel He'd write.

I'm just a bit into it so far, but the thing that struck me immediately was his superb grasp of human nature. All the odd little quirks and mannerisms of the characters really ring true.

I checked Four Past Midnight out of the library. I always like Secret Window.

That was a good one, but it almost seemed a bit too much like The Dark Half, which was one of my favorite SK books.

I do like SK books but they take FOREVER to read and I don't have that kind of patience.

The Library Policeman is kinda long. I think it looks like it's gonna end soon and I find out there's like a hundred more pages to go. Good story, though. And pretty effed up, in a good way.

Have you ever read any of the Dark Tower series?

Re: I'm Reading.....
Nope. But didn't they make that into graphic novels?

They started to, but the flavor is more like what you find in the final three books of the series, which are definitely the weakest. The first three are some of the best writing he ever did.

Re: I'm Reading.....
If I posted what I was reading, it would defeat the purpose of having a GoodReads account. =P
I really love that site because I don't have to remember what I read, when I read it or whether I liked it...

Ha! Are books just notches on your belt, Jadewik?!?
Heh heh heh.... I always kinda thought that remembering what you read was sort of the whole point of reading, but....

No, they're not notches in a belt... they're more heavy weights that accumulate in my house.
I remember most of what I read; but if it's a book I want to forget, it's nice to have that option... and if I write down why I hated it, I can remember to never pick it up again. If I liked a book, I know to read it again.... and I can recommend it to others... and see what other people are reading, see what they've read... AND... occasionally, on Goodreads, I can win an advance copy of books-- like Eye of the Red Tsar, which doesn't come out 'till the 27th of this month... but I had it read several weeks ago. (Great book, btw, but completely and horribly historically inaccurate.)
