Anyone started decorating Halloween?

What do you like to decorate with? That bucket of blood?

Anyone started decorating Halloween?

Post by iHaunt » Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:23 pm

Just wondering if I'm the only one. Can't seem to wait... we will start to decorate in late September, but we won't be able to put a lot of props out in the yard because Halloween is on Sunday. :? I know there are not going to be a lot of TOTs out there on that evening of Sunday.

So, what about you? What are you planning to do?

It's hard to "start" doing something you never stopped...

LOL, touche!

I have somethings up year round as I imagine most of us do. I have a box of decor at work I will probably crack open at the end of the week. It's been staring at me for quite some time now and I honestly forgot what I packed away in it last year! I pulled out some pieces from my Halloween village and plugged them in to get motivated. The Lily (my black cat) ate one of the flying witches so back in the box they went.
I've met The Great Pumpkin.

I've got some year round decorations, as well as some new stuff out. There's no point in buying something new and just putting it away until you get the rest of the stuff out. I mean, that'd just be plain silly in my opinion.
The year round decorations are special to me. :)

I don't keep any holiday decorations up year-round. If I have stuff up all the time, I get so I don't "see" it. It's just like background noise to me. I have to put it all away and "rediscover" it the following year.

I have a few things like a big Halloween coffee mug, a few dish towels, a small thing here or there.

I am like Murfreesboro, I pack most of it away and pull it out and look at each thing. I will start getting it out Sept. 1st.

I did find a great dead tree today. It is small, about 6' and has a trunk of about 5'' diameter. I dug it up and I am going to set it in plaster of paris into an old pot of some sort.

It will go on my front porch this year draped with spider webs and have as many crows as I can fit on it.

I may not decorate yet, but I am ALWAYS planning!

Well oddly enough the Halloween spirit didn't hit me until July this year. I think sometime after Christmas or such, the Halloween spirit went to sleep in the crypt for a while. But it always comes out one way or another.
I think it started when I decided to sell Avon, and noticed the Halloween things in there, and then boom, it bit me like a hungry zombie.
But like I said, some things are special to me, which is why I leave them out all year round. They don't become background decorations, I just don't have the heart to put them away.
And then of course, if you're going to buy something new for Halloween, what's the point of putting it in storage when you've just bought it? I mean, unless it's at a yard sale or something, before June or July, but still. Even then I sometimes leave it out. Why not?

I admit that I did get out and put up a Halloween counter-down-thing I got for Christmas last year. I had to wait to pull it out because it only counts down from 99. But, on day 99, I set it up on the mantle.

Sounds intriguing. Is that a variation on the Advent calendar?
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Aww, ILMM - hope you are okay, really. Or are you maybe going to be very busy, or on a trip? Just hope it's for a positive reason.

I usually try to buy stuff on Nov. 1, when it is marked down. Then I pack it away for the next year. Almost always there is something I have forgotten I own when I pull stuff out from the previous year's stash.

I'll start bringing stuff out by mid-September, I guess.

A couple of years ago I started a custom of carving a special craft pumpkin to commemorate a pet who had passed. That takes a little time. Two years ago, I carved a cat pumpkin for one of our cats who had died. Last summer, our dog died, but I didn't get around to carving her pumpkin last year. I need to get started on that soon. These will be craft pumpkins I can keep from year to year. The one for my cat was carved like a cat. I need to find a good dog pattern for my dog.
