What I will do is buy the wooden letters, trace them onto some foam, then cut out the letters and glue the foam onto the plywood. I will do this to most of the gravestones then glue the wooden letters and the cut out foam letters on some other gravestones. I am not saying this will happen but I will try to get to work on the stones and try this.

make sure to cut out the centers of letters like 'a' and 'o' very carfully 'cause you will need them to complete the carved-out look.

Here's a great link I found last year for making really realistic foam tombstones. I never tried it myself, but I may this year.
