I don't believe in spirits.
I do believe in composting.

I just feel really down talking about this but I look at it this way when Halloween is in the ground every day after Halloween it grows stronger until October 1st when it will rise again and the the people who drink Hatoraide toward Halloween will duck and hide.
There are many tales there is that one you mentioned, then there one like in order to ward off you leave a lighted candle lit all Halloween night or you will get bad luck. I think I forgot to release the spirits last year

. But I did this year

there is also another tradition to where at the end of the last halloween fire.. each person tosses a white rock into the burning coals.. its said that if there is a rock missing the next morning... that person will die before next halloween
mac you probably won't believe that either...

Just because I don't believe in it, doesn't mean it isn't not true.

I've never had a ceremony about disposing of my pumpkins, but I do feel a pang when I get rid of them. Next year I may try to do something ritualistic.
I know one thing--I am NOT going to be throwing any white stones into any Halloween bonfires. No way, no sir. I don't need to be fretting all year long about some weird prognostication of doom.

I like the idea of ritual, but it seems like a lot of work....
