I love the Lost Boys too! I have a David pumpkin pattern and I've been debating whether or not to carve him this year.
I agree with Murf on Dracula--the Gary Oldman version is probably the closest to the novel out of all of the other Dracula movies. Francis Ford Coppola definitely took some liberties with the story, but overall, he stayed relatively close to the original story.

I think the idea of the vampire bursting into flames in sunlight may come from Nosferatu. The novel Dracula was still under copyright back then, so the filmmakers couldn't use that name. I guess they tweaked the story, and having the vampire burst into flames in sunlight was a great visual effect.
The Gary Oldman Dracula uses weird shadows the same way they are used in Nosferatu. It is a kind of hommage, I think.

I remember reading that about Nosferatu. I can't remember if it's on the dvd for Dracula or in a book about the movie that I have that talked about how they did the shadows in the movie. The part when Harker first meets Dracula--the shadow that he casts is, I think, a choreographer doing some kind of dance moves to make the shadow look like it has a life of it's own.

Ok, so I do George Clooney in "From Dusk Till Dawn" movie in 1996.... he was criminal then later on, he turned out to be the vampire slayer. I really did enjoy that movie! Part 2 is okay, but part 3 is sucked. Not bad at all.

Gary Oldman nailed it. So did Frank Langella.
Loved the Lost Boys vamps and Bela Lugosi. Alluring and sexy and lethal for me.

I must agree with the gorgeous wolf...Bela Lugosi is the archetype Vampire and also liked Frank Langella's version as well. I also liked the Hammer Films and Christopher Lee...he was frightening when his eyes would go bloodshot while he was biting and drinking blood.
Gary Oldman's performance iwas very good and gave Dracula his Noble and sympathetic side but was still ruthless...

Right off the bat (pardon the pun) I CAN'T STAND the Baseball playing, italian food cooking, 'cool dude" who lives in the modern house and can come out in the day time, as portrayed in the rather sorry rendition called "Twilight." I hope I am not offending anyone, but I am pretty much a traditionalist, and for me, a traditional vampire is a suave, sophisticated handsome man or beautiful woman with a sociopathic thurst for blood.
Again, the very first vampire I ever met was Barnabas Collins. It was he and Tom Jennings who introduced me to the mababre world of the vampire who was truely an 'un dead' creature of the night, but was confined to a coffin during the day. Barnabas Collins was as scary as he was polite, and many emulated his manorisms. I allways wanted to grow up and have a house just like his. Why do you think I presently live in a 100 year old house?
Count Dracula, as portrayed by Bela Lugosi is my 2nd fav, but all the other various Draculas were also pretty good.
To put in simple terms, my vampires are real monsters, not cool teenagers who sparkle in the sun light, and are not really dead.

Never read 'The Halloween Tree', never saw 'Lost Boys'... did you ever trick-or-treat when you were a wee lad?
I like the silent, mysterious, unobtrusively powerful type of vampire. My favorite portrayal is a toss up between Gerard Butler as Dracula in 'Dracula 2000', Brad Pitt as Louis in 'Interview With the Vampire', or Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck in 'Shadow of the Vampire'. I wonder which one of these three the girls would pick?
