I really hope you and your kids have a happy and decent Halloween despite the tough times. I know that when hard times hit during any of the major holidays it can be a real bummer. I will never forget the Christmas season of 2006. My employers informed me, just 3 weeks before Christmas, that my job was going to be eliminated. That completely ruined my Christmas that year. By the grace of God, however, they changed their minds and decided to retain me. It was definately a miracle that I was giving thanks for on Thanksgiving of 07, but Christmas of 06 was a total bummer fest, as was the following Lent and Easter. They decided to retain me in May of 07.

it's not really a matter of tough times, I just dont know if we'll buy pumpkins this year, I havent really decided, no one here seems too excited about it all, the kids dont seem too interested in carving pumpkins....

Spooky, if you and your kids have no time to carve the pumpkins this year, then you all can still go out on Halloween night, like trick or treating, maybe going to the haunted house, haunted hayride, Halloween party? It is up to you, and you can make up something in your own mind.
