Re: What made you sad today?
While it is still early, I am contemplating not putting up my decorations or my Halloween tree. My decor is either things that need to be plugged in or are candle holders. Anything that needs to be plugged in will increase my electric bill. And my electric bill is high enough already. While there are things I can still do to celebrate that won't add to my bills, I want to go big or not at all. This also means that I probably won't be able to go to the farm I go to every year either. They have a haunted woods and haunted corn maze. And they do an amazing job.

Re: What made you sad today?
I know what you mean about electric bills, Boogyman. I spent over 400 dollars this summer for air conditioning, so I have been paying a pretty heafty ammount. On the other hand, most Halloween lights and decorations that require an electrical out let should not draw too much current, especialy if those things are lit by LEDs instead of those little standard incondescent lights that are more common. But even those little bulbs, all together, couldn'd draw much more then about 40 watts give or take.
But even if your electricity is shut off, I would at least have a jack o'lantern or 2 and some candy for the ToTers. Due to my photo schedule, I'll be ready for Halloween a week late this year IF I'm lucky.

Re: What made you sad today?
i don't get any ToTers. I live in a condo and there are not any kids in the building. We also have a security door which restricts access. My Halloween tree and some of my lights are not LED, so those would cost more to plug in. I am just not in the mood because of everything else going on.

A neighbor has put up Christmas lights outside.
Not something to accent a Halloween display.
White cord, clear lights with the occasional sparkly white snowflake.

Re: What made you sad today?
Are they turning them on yet? Putting them out early isn't that big of a deal. In some parts of the country, it makes it easier with the weather. Maybe they just wanted to get them up before it the weather got colder. And yes I know you are in California and 60 degrees is a tragedy.
We are forecasted to get rain and snow mixed through Thursday. It is still too warm for it to accumalate though.

I'd kill for some rain.
Of the thirty or so inches of annual rainfall that we usually get, I think we've had four.
It's pretty dry.

We usually put our Christmas lights up early.... in November, when it's a little warmer, in December it's too cold and I don't want to slide off our roof!!
Ohh!! And we don't turn them on till December!!

Re: What made you sad today?
We just added to our Halloween yard display, stringing tiny orange lights in our redbud tree. It is encircled by little "ghosts" dancing around the trunk of the tree.
I try to get my Christmas lights up a day or so after Thanksgiving, when I feel the Christmas season more or less officially starts. I don't always make that deadline, but I try.
I was startled, back in late September, to see Christmas decorations all over the place on the second stories of two separate department stores around here. They didn't have any downstairs yet, but they had Christmas trees galore on the second story--in September! Two different stores! My husband said he thinks the merchants are anticipating an anemic shopping season & are trying to get people into the mood early.

Nope, Dillard's & Belk's. Not sure we even have a Macy's down here, though there may be one in Nashville.Boogeyman wrote:I know one of them was Macy's.

Good luck. Are you driving? If so, drive faster. It won't take so long then.
